How a Little Goal Setting Secretly Changed my Life

Published on March 22, 2008 by in Goal Setting

I’ve heard about goal setting for a while and I thought I knew how to do it (big mistake).

I had my goals and got a bit discouraged and skeptical when things didn’t work according to my plans. And, I think that’s what happens to a lot of people.

There are moments when we all get so inspired deep down and set up these big goals but a day or two later, we are back to square 1. And I completely understand that. I was there for a long, long time. We read some inspirational books and get all pumped up for a couple days. Then, that goes away and we think inspiration and personal development is just hogwash.

Well, personal development, motivation and inspiration aren’t hogwash at all. People have just been doing it the wrong way.

Let’s tackle one of the biggest problems.

When we read self-help books or listen to inspirational tapes, we setup our goals. So far so good. But, the reason so many people get discouraged and never see their dreams come true is because they lack the ability to break down an amazing big dream into little goals that are achievable and measurable.

You need to define these small milestones towards your big dream if you want to follow through, avoid the manana syndrome (a.k.a I’ll do it tomorrow bug) and achieve your goals.

Just sit down right now and break your big goals down. You’ll make far more progress that way.
