How to Keep Going even when it Rains on your Parade

crossingThings don’t always go as planned

This Friday, I came home with a list of things to do. A list of chapters to read, projects to complete, people to contact and so on. But, at the end of the long weekend, I’m still sitting here with that list.

I didn’t get to complete all the things I wanted to. Want to know why?

I caught the nasty thing called the flu on Thursday. Which means, I spent my long weekend in bed, feeling miserable (well semi-miserable, I’ll tell you why).

Have you ever come home with nice plans…that never worked?

It’s somewhat like the first day of school. People get excited, have all their works organized and then a week later…all their plans seem to fail because of unexpected movies with friends, too much work and so on. It’s like bringing home a new project to work on over the weekend.

If everything is going alright, your computer will fail and you’ll end up spending the time fixing it. It’s such a waste of time. Another brilliant plan falling apart.

Except….

Successful People Never Let the Rain Stop Them

Edison didn’t let one failed attempt stop him. Medicine has never let bacteria evolution stop them. And successful people don’t let the rain stop them either. Even if it rains on your beautiful plan, you need to keep going.

Computer broke down? So what, go find a cyber cafe or call up your friend.

Sick? So what? At least you get started on the tasks.

And that’s the mindset you need to have to become more effective and productive everyday.

Am I suggesting you ignore your sickness and work yourself to death?

Absolutely not! If we could do that, I wouldn’t be sitting here with my incomplete agenda. You have to listen to your body and get some rest but you can always at least get a bit started if you came home with a big plan. For example, I couldn’t do a lot of writing but I could come up with ideas for things to write about. I couldn’t sit down and review my notes but I could take the time to organize them in their correct binders.

Even if you have a bad headache, even if you’re not feeling so good, there’s always things that will take you a step closer towards your goals. Do them.

If you brought home a plan and have a goal to achieve, work on it even if things go against you.

Important Remark: I am by no means suggesting that you become a workaholic. Just suggesting that when you have a goal and a plan, try working on it no matter what.

That said, how was your long weekend? Did you accomplish all the tasks you brought home? Or was it a lovely family weekend? Share your long weekend story with us. Just leave a comment below.
