Computer Addicts – Take Care of your Body!

I don’t know if it comes from being an engineer or an online business owner but I do spend most of my day in front of the computer. I’m guessing you may be doing the same thing too.
If you are, I need to make a “public service announcement” for your health and safety - it’s one of the things that you really need to pay attention to! And my wrist maybe a living and breathing proof of that.
Over the last week, I’ve been experiencing a pretty constant pain in my wrist. Now, I didn’t make the connection early enough but now that I think of it – it’s probably the extended use of my keyboard and mouse. And, it’s disabling me from doing a lot of things I’d normally do with my computer. That’s quite a bit of time being lost if you’ll agree with me.
Anyhow, because I’ve learned it the hard way – I want to save you the pain of all the stress that long computer use with negligence can cause. I’ve been guilty of bad posture and what not while sitting on my chair, checking my emails.
Here’s a few links to help you use your computer without killing your body:
1. Tips from Stanford University – download their ergonomics brochure and their shortcut keys for PC and Mac
2. How t o create an ergonomic computer work station
Also look for things on ebay. I’ve seen ergonomic mice on sale from $4 – $100′s of dollars there but you can get a pretty good one for around $30.
That’s the links I’ve found.
Got any other links? Favorite ergonomic tips or better yet, how to fix my wrist?
Have a good Friday!

Rigdha,
I really enjoyed this article. I can relate to the pain as I spend good many hours in front of the computer. I’ve stumbled this article. Thanks for sharing.

I enjoyed your article Computer Addicts – Take Care of Your Body. May I suggest for wrist and neck pain that you also adjust your chair height? Don’t lock your self into measurement suggestions from research studies; just make adjustments in your work environment until you find the right combination needed just for you. We do often get absorbed in computer work and seriously need to take regular breaks (just to keep the circulation moving, if for no other reasons). I used to have wrist and neck pain, but after making the needed adjustments just suggested I haven’t experienced them anymore.
This is my first visit to your blog. I look forward to learning more from your contributions here. Best wishes.
Chris
Shilpan, you’re very welcome and thanks for stumbling the article!
Chris, thanks for the tip. I’ll experiment with adjusting the chair height. And, welcome to the blog, hope to see you around
