Do you Challenge Yourself?

I was watching “The Mindset of a Champion” with Dr. David Cook on TSTN (The Success Training Network) the other day and in one of the episodes (I can’t remember which because I watched too many of them back to back), he talks about challenge as a key ingredient of goals.

I thought that was quite interesting. Challenge as a necessary element of goal setting? I’d never thought about it. But, when I look back to some of the best goals that I’ve achieved easily, they’ve all been challenging ones. I think it’s the challenge that gives us some of the drive to play and have fun.

I know I love challenge (which is the main reason why I became an engineer).  There was something about being given a seemingly impossible task, a 2-week time frame, legos, motors, a computer and some power tools (Yes, I am a geek at heart)!

Before I get too carried away, the issue at hand is that challenge is an extremely powerful tool. And, I’ve used it (without actually thinking about it) a lot of times to manage my time and become more effective in what I was doing.

Here are some of the goals I set for myself at times….

Get 2 weeks worth of newsletter articles done.

What’s cool about this? The cool thing is I only have one thing to do all day (although as I’ve gotten better, it takes me less than 3 hours to achieve the goal these days).

The other cool thing is, it’s not an “easy” task which gives me the drive to beat it and smell the victory.

So, try challenging yourself with your to-do list. Make it a game and win it! It’s a powerful Time Management tool!
